feathering my nest friday

what an incredible week!

the launch of our online 'the nest store' over at our face book page {here} has been amazing
& this week we have also begun our retail journey with our 'mud by nest' collection
now selling in some gorgeous homeware & florist shops!

many of you would have received your mud by now, we hope you will love & share it!
thank you all for your gorgeous messages, likes, shares & of course orders,
it has made my little dream come true!

with my week spent literally covered in mud, my own poor little nest has been a bit neglected!
i love my nest to be somewhat organised before it gets all lived in again over the weekend, but finding the motivation to do so this afternoon is hard, i have way more fun things to be doing!

so, to get me inspired i have my favourtie of the moment, Adele singing loudly in the background for me, a lovely cup of tea &
a plan to lose myself in 'blogland' for a while before i start!

i thought i would share some images that are helping to get me all inspired
to feather my own nest today!

firstly, i couldn't help snapping this little image on the corner of my desk right now.
it makes me smile.
my jasmine has finally bloomed & smells divine, i have little vases of it all thru the house!
the little bird nest was a gift from a beautiful friend, i just cherish & adore it.
it is from the sublime 'have you met ms.jones'.

you may have noticed i love chairs.
old chairs, new chairs, comfy chairs, fabric covered chairs, odd chairs, painted chairs, any chair.
i just love this chair.
i love the soft colour floral fabric, the pop of pink in in the comfy cushion &
the lime green box pleated trim is just simply divine!

love love crisp white bedlinen.  this is a beautiful room, with a hint of spring flowers.
oh to have a day to sleep in!

it must be friday, i have champagne on my mind!
loving these bright images of my very favourite Veuve Cliquot
by french artist Florence Deygas.
makes me feel all happy & bubbly!

have a fabulous weekend feathering your own nest!

dream. believe. create.

tree for friday

yes, that is broccoli.  or trees as they are known to my boys.
the first i have ever grown actually.  it was flourishing beautifully in my garden, small but still uneaten by bugs, so i thought i would give it some more time to grow.  a few days later, gorgeous yellow flowers had appeared!  i had missed its peak to pick to eat, so i decided to pick it, pop it in a bottle with a few shells & a little mud tag & ta-da... a pretty little flower-tree & one i thought quiet fitting in light of our aussie tour de france celebrations!
i understand completly it sounds a little silly to be raving about broccoli, but i am just a little desperate to find some colour in my garden at the moment. see, you can always find ways to feather your nest & make something out of nothing & i am very happy to have found some colour inspiration, even if it is from a green vegetable.x

roses are red..

i have had a week of needing the colour red in my days! red lippy, red shoes, red paint, red wine & even the need to add some red to my blog page!

apart from the chill of winter that has set in & the need to feel bright & warm,  i believe my red inspiration has come from my gorgeous dozen red roses that bloomed this week!

ironically i really don't love red roses & i haven't inherited a green thumb in the garden like the rest of my family, but somehow on a rose bush that was already planted in my garden by previous owners i have managed to bloom twelve perfect red roses! and i love them!

so of course red roses are my flowers for friday! i have a few gorgeous friends to be grateful for this week also so i have loved sharing some bright & warm red with them too.

hope you enjoy some bright & warm red from my dozen roses too & have a fabulous w'endx

table set table talk

we had a dinner party on the weekend made fabulous by sharing with wonderful friends that made the table talk, but there were a few little details i needed to add to make sure the table was set!

firstly the invitations - tho the date was set i was a bit late getting the official invite out, of course i couldn't find any gorgeous invitations at the last minute!
so i came home & put together my own from my ikea napkins, plastic silver cutlery, paper plate,
our little mud by nest tag for effect (& a magnet on the back for the fridge!)
next time i will be better planned & get my friend
Jo at Cranky Mammas Cards & Things to do them for me!

so invites were out, but i now had more guests than i did dinner plates & glasses... so i spent a fabulous afternoon scouring second hand stores to find some items with plenty of vintage 'table talk'..

the stories that could be told by this dinner set of 6 plates, 6 sides & 6 bowls - all for $3 !!
i actually love it so much i will use it as my every day set!
the blue set i had set the theme of mismatched vintage chic in my favourite blue & white colour, with a rustic little fragrant touch of white shells, rosemary twig & staar anise & a little splash of ikea napkin to match the invites

one can never have enough cocktail glasses, especially @ 10cents each!  i have also been known as the platter queen, so what were a couple more silver platters to add to my collection, for all of 50c!

instead of flowers i potted some white pratia seedlings in some square glass candle holders left
over from our wedding, the little white star flower on them is just so sweet!
i will now plant the seedlings in my garden so i will always have my centre piece!
a simple tea light in my nanna's old crystal bowls & fleur dy lys wine glasses lined the centre of the table & gave a stunning effect on the gorgeous 'bargain' target white embossed cotton tablecloths!

with a minimal budget, a little bit of thought & a willingness to shop in places you don't necessarily find brand new things - (also try garage sales, ebay & borrowing from friends) -
you never know what 'treasures' you will find amongst someone else's 'trash'
(or as i like to refer to it as vintage pieces that talk!) -

our table was set & our table talked!

after all that i almost forgot the finishing touch... food!
thank goodness for my sous chefs & donna hay & her 'no time to cook' book!!

365 grateful..

grateful for my flower for friday
i was really touched to read the article in the queensland Qweekend magazine last weekend about one woman's daily pursuit of happiness.

in an effort to fight depression, Hailey Bartholomew started a photographic project called 365grateful  where she took one polaroid a day of something she felt grateful for - anything from her daughter riding a bike to a row of just-rained on gumboots.  the discipline of having to look for the good things in every day changed her life in a multiple of ways & wondrously impacted the lives of many others.  Hailey put her project on Flikr & hundreds of people began to do their own 365 grateful projects. along with Hailey's project other stories will now be told in 365 grateful - the documentary.

i have been thinking about it all week & have finally made the time to read thru her site.  i loved learning about all the different interpretations of the grateful project & it got me thinking about how one of the pleasures i receive with my journey at nest is helping people to be grateful for not only in every day life, but also within your own nests. we often talk about the importance of appreciating people & values, of which is of upmost importance to me, but i also think it is important to appreciate the 'things & stuff' around us too, as these 'things & stuff' make up the nests we love to call home.

my page on 'moodboards' & blog on 'flowers for friday' is a growing reflection of some little things & ways i hope can make you feel grateful for the nest you live in.  a quote on my page reads 'its not what you look at that matters, its what you see' - if all you look at in your nest is the untidy chaos created by every day life - then why not take a moment each day to see beyond the chaos (that is actually only created because it is a nest being lived & loved in!) & be grateful too for the little things around you - pieces, gifts, favourite bed linen, books, art, a chair, framed photos, a special cushion or a happy purchases.. all these 'things & stuff' make the chaos around you your home.  be grateful for them too..

there are a number of things i feel grateful for today, but in keeping with my flowers for friday theme, i choose to share the simple stunning passionfruit flowers growing outside, one of which i have popped in a little dish in the bathroom.

what are your flowers for friday & what will you be grateful for in your nest today?

have a gorgeous grateful weekend!x

fiddlesticks

'fresh is best' with flower displays but sometimes it can be just, well, fiddlesticks!

flowers for friday

i was recently surprised to receive stunning flowers from someone unexpected & it made me feel so overwhelmingly happy & uplifted!  a gorgeous new friend thinking of me during a sad time, a very special gesture thank you Toni x

why not surprise someone unexpected & make them feel uplifted by giving them some flowers for friday?

have an amazing weekend!x

flowers for friday

if you don't grow anything else in your garden - you must have a herb patch! easy to grow in a limited space (use old pots/troughs/barrels), & so wonderful to pick fresh when cooking.  i always keep a wine glass or cup of freshly picked herbs in my kitchen - the vibrant green is stunning & the aroma is gorgeous! why not pick a bunch of fresh herbs for your own kitchen for 'flowers for friday'?

one thing that is loving all of the rain at the moment is the garden!  i have an abundance of rocket & basil that i wanted to do something with before the bugs attack so i whipped up this gorgeous pesto - normally parmesan cheese & pine nuts are used but i had neither so i got creative & used lemon & almonds instead. divine! best of all you don't even need to be able to cook to make it!

nest's rocket, basil, almond & lemon pesto
big bunch fresh rocket
big bunch fresh basil
cup of slightly toasted almonds
rind & juice of one lemon
1 1/2 cloves of crushed garlic
salt & pepper
olive oil

dry roast the almonds. in a food processor i whizzed the almonds first to get the right crush.  set aside, then whizz the rocket, basil, lemon rind & juice, garlic, salt & pepper.  add almonds to mix then drizzle in the olive oil until you have the right consistency.  seal in a sterilized jar.

i always keep old mustard & jam jars for making things like this.  wrap around some gorgeous ribbon & label your jar & you have a perfect gift for someone!

flowers for friday

i love fresh flowers & pops of different colours in my home, especially on a friday in readiness for the weekend!  today i have picked two gorgeous agapanthus from my garden.  the colour in a white vase is simply stunning!  now to fill the table with fabulous food, wine & friends!  what will be your flowers for friday?
