what a gorgeous & invigorating way to start the day!

inspired by instagram, i am just loving taking photos at the moment 

 i have not altered the light or contrast in these photos.. 

they are as i saw the sunrise this morning, just stunning!

it is such nice thing to take the time to just stop 

& see the beauty in things..

i am off with my mud this weekend for my first 'nest' market for the year beside the 

seaside, enjoying the gorgeous sunshine we have at the moment..

hoping your weekend in full of sunshine too, even if the sun isn't shining!

cleaning the nest..

do you have a cleaning 'routine' in your nest?

perhaps you clean on an as needed basis, or way past needed basis!

perhaps you have a set cleaning day, or maybe you have someone else do it for you?!

i have a hate-love bug with cleaning - hate to clean, love the end result!
i guess i am not alone, tho i do know people that love to clean!

my cleaning is usually done in bits & pieces here & there as needed, & sometimes i admit
way past needed.  i felt i was cleaning to no avail most of the time, so since school started
back i have tried to bring some routine to my weeks, scheduling thursdays as my
'must clean the nest' day - a power clean where i get everything done in one hit
- & i have been loving an entire clean nest at once, well until school is out at least!

 but, today is thursday & it has been one of those days where i have found way more
 important things to do than clean! fancy that!

 i love this image i had in my files, could not be more relevant for me today!

oh, at times i wish the magic cleaning fairy would fly thru my nest &
 sprinkle the 'magic clean' in each room!

it is friday & time to do a little nice thing to your nest in readiness for the weekend!

i thought i would mix the theme a little this friday with a few inspirations to feather little nests,
why shouldn't little nesters feather their own too?!

why shouldn't you feather your own nest?

what one nice thing can you do to feather your nest for the weekend that will make you smile?

it may be picking some nice flowers from the garden & popping them in small vases around your home {it is lovely to have a small vase in your bathroom & laundry},
 re-display some photo frames
{sometimes just repositioning something to a different focal point in the room changes an item from something you just look at to something you actually see & enjoy!},
put out some nice candles to light around the room for the evening,
sort thru your music & make a playlist of songs you love but haven't heard for a while,
move your laundry powder into a gorgeous big jar & have on display in your laundry
 or change all your bedlinen fresh for the weekend - throw on some nice cushions to dress it up!

some times taking a little bit of time & effort to do something little
makes you feel a huge bit of happiness,
& why shouldn't you feather your own nest?

meaning to-do monday..

amongst the crazy chaos (busy & fun, but still crazy & chaos) last week i shared a little quote:

"if your shelves are dusty & your pots don't shine

its because you have better things to do with your time..."

i am first to admit i have had way better things to do with my time lately & unfortunately

when we get caught up in our busy lifestyles - the piles get higher, the weeks role into one & 

the list of things we've been 'meaning to do' in our nests seems to grow!

do you also have a growing list of all the little odd jobs you have been meaning to do?

so i am starting & sharing with you 'meaning to do monday'!

lets take your to do list & break it down.  each monday i will send a reminder to you to choose one chore 'you have been meaning to do' & inspire you to get it done & crossed off the list!

this can be a small job or big job, but only one job at a time.

here are some ideas..

sort your winter to summer clothes, clean the iron, sort the bathroom cupboard & throw out the empty jars & bottles, sort the stack of school newsletters that are piling up on the fridge, go thru that pile of shoes around the back door, clean out the fridge  - get the idea?

all these jobs listed together would take forever, which is why it is easy to put them off!  but doing one thing at a time it is much easier to achieve & how much better do you feel when you have finally got something done that you have been meaning to do!

so lets go.. today is monday - what one job have you been meaning to do in your nest? do it!

for me it was to fix the towel hanger in the bathroom beside the handbasin that had been pulled down by my darling little nesters weeks ago - big tick, job done! how nice to have a towel close by to dry my hands! oh, the simple things in life..!

many of you enjoyed my 'flowers for friday'  i was regularly blogging, until i got caught up in

 my own busy-ness.  so back on my list of things i have been meaning to do, i will be 

refreshing the friday blogs to read 'feather your nest friday' where you choose

 one nice thing to do to your nest to make it a happy one for the weekend!

 get that one chore you have been meaning to do crossed off your list & see you friday..

the way nests were once feathered..

yesterday i helped out with my son's school excursion to a historic village museum 

- well i think i was the most excited one! 

there where many blank 'oh? 's, why's & whats that? thru the mouths of babes - how they giggled when told that children's after school jobs were to work in the dairy & keep mums log box beside the fire stove full so she could cook dinner! what no tv?! you sit around listening to a piano? what is that bowl under the bed for? a horse took you to school! too cute!

i think it is nice to have a grounding reminder of how life was lived in nests' before the

 mod-con, technological & convenient society we live in today.

 our basic needs to eat, sleep, shelter, wash, iron, keep food cool, & be entertained in our nests are still the same - it is the choices we have to feather them today

 that influences how we live out those basic needs.

most of the pictures i took (sorry for the photo quality but i was trying to supervise 5yo's at the same time who love to touch!), was actually 'modern' compared to the wood huts & log chairs we also saw.  vintage pieces are very much a part of interior decorating society now days, & many pieces sort after.
as goes the saying 'if you keep something long enough it comes back into fashion'!?
 sharing some pieces i just loved & would adore to have in my own nest now!

oh i would love these wicker chairs on my deck!

i admit my least favourite chore is ironing, but seeing the old irons that need to be heated on the wood stove before rubbing onto the bees wax, did make me feel a little love for my electric iron.

my nest interior style is to mix the old & new, 'rustic glam' - i love the sleek modern look & love to add character & feel to the room with old pieces that could tell many stories! 

the good ol' days? in some ways, maybe.

i am not sure i would go as far back as having these items at home to actually use, but certainly to decorate in feathering my nest, & to take a moment to appreciate the way it was.
